Overview
Space to Breathe Collective CIC is a community-rooted organisation committed to wellbeing, creativity, and democratic participation. As a Director, you will join a dynamic team working within a sociocratic circle structure—where leadership is shared, decisions are made collaboratively, and every voice matters. This role is ideal for individuals who value inclusivity, transparency, and regenerative community impact.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Stewardship
Help shape and evolve the CIC’s vision, values, and long-term strategy in alignment with community wellbeing.
Contribute to strategic planning and evaluation, ensuring activities reflect the needs and aspirations of diverse stakeholders.
Legal & Financial Accountability
Fulfil statutory duties under the Companies Act 2006 and CIC. regulations, including submission of annual reports and accounts.
Ensure resources are used responsibly and transparently to deliver community benefit.
Monitor financial health and risk, supporting ethical and sustainable practices.
Community Connection
Act as a bridge between the CIC and its wider community, listening, representing, and amplifying diverse voices.
Champion accessibility, anti-discriminatory practice, equity, and non-hierarchical collaboration in all interactions.
Operational Support
Contribute to operational planning, project delivery, and reflective learning across the CIC.
Support staff, volunteers, and collaborators with empathy and clarity.
Uphold safeguarding, data protection, and wellbeing practices.
Legal Duties of a CIC Director
Act within the CIC’s constitution and powers.
Promote the success of the collective with regard to its community interest.
Exercise independent judgment and reasonable care, skill, and diligence.
Avoid conflicts of interest and declare relevant interests transparently.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, especially those historically underrepresented in governance spaces. You don’t need to be an expert—just someone who shares our values and is willing to learn and grow with us. We are looking for Directors who fully understand Space to Breathe Collective and have taken an active role with us to this point.
Desirable qualities:
Commitment to inclusive, community-led change.
Willingness to engage in sociocratic processes and shared leadership.
Experience or interest in areas like wellbeing, creative practice. governance, or community organising.
Ability to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and collaborate generously.
Time Commitment & Support
Directors typically commit around 4 hours per month, including occasional events. This is not a paid role.
Commit to attending 80% of Assembly meetings.
Training is provided, including sociocracy basics and CIC responsibilities.
We offer a supportive, non-hierarchical environment where learning is continuous and mutual.
